(Devi) Doree Chase

I was born January 10th, 1936 and by June 1938 I knew I would spend my life doing artwork and have done so.

My relatives and many fine teachers have always been supportive, have expected much and have given more. I struggle to give back even a hint of what has been given. The entire history of world art is a delicious gift for this hungry devotee. What visual fortunes we are heir to!!

I’ve been making sculpture since 1952. Most recently I’ve been making ceramic sculpture which is mostly figurative and often colored with cold encaustic. Encaustic is a mixture of oil paint and wax medium.

For me, life drawing is collecting visual data to be referred to later when I make sculpture or paintings. The human form has always been my metaphor for self expression.
