Carolyn Carpenter is an artist and teacher who has lived in Mendocino County since 1989. Her work exhibited at the Willits Center for the Arts is primarily acrylic. As an art teacher, she works in many mediums, but has spent the last year concentrating on painting, thanks to the inspiration of painter friends Ed Bock and Joey Sala, as well as artist Loren Madsen.
When she decided to ‘get serious’ about painting again, Ed brought her magnolias from his yard (Ed’s Gift, 2007) and told her to give herself a year before judging where she was going or what she was doing. “Just paint,” Ed exhorted, “don’t judge.” Not long after, Joey called and asked her to join her in the exhibit. What is on exhibit is the result of that year.
